Set Your Budget: 1-2 Weeks
The worst thing ever would be to get your heart set on a bunch of improvements but not be able to do them because your budget doesn’t allow for it. That’s why you have to decide on how much money you’re willing to spend before choosing your remodel design.
Many people hire two different companies. A design team and a build team. The design team will tell you how much everything is going to cost and help you create your budget.
Once the budget is accounted for and a design is decided upon, the build team comes in and gets started with the project. The best part of hiring a design team is that they can give you a quote over the phone.
You can even email them pictures of your kitchen and get a ballpark price.
Do Your Research: As Long As Needed
The next step is to start calling around to different contractors or deciding if you need one. There are some projects that you can do yourself with the help of a short YouTube how-to video. Other aspects of a kitchen remodel are a bit more complicated.
If you’re going to be hiring a contractor, be sure to call a few of them. This way, you can get a feel for a bunch of different companies and compare price quotes. Take as long as you need to get through this process.
Choose Your Design: 4-8 Weeks
Once you’ve got a price quote that you can work with, it’s time to have the contractor come out to do a walkthrough of your kitchen. If you need basic kitchen cabinets and materials, the wait time won’t be too damaging. If you need anything custom made, however, you need to get on that ASAP.
Even small customizations can take up to four months or so to get back to you. That’s a long time to put your project on hold.
Demolition: 1 Week
Demolition will only take about a week. The construction company will come in and tear up your floors, remove your plumbing and wiring, and tear down your walls.
Still, there’s a little more to this process than ripping everything apart. The workers are going to be on the lookout for anything that might need to be fixed before the construction process begins.
Construction: It Varies
The time it takes for construction varies from project to project. If the contractors find anything questionable such as a broken foundation, they’ll have to fix that before they can start building new walls.
If you’re having anything painted, one coat will have to dry before they can apply a second one. A storm could blow through your area and cut the power. Anything can extend the timeline.
